One of my oldest Marian pieces (and the very first featuring a non-white Mary!) started in 2018 when I was pregnant with the triplets and finished later that year 🏵️ Inspired by these verses:
Help of the Half-defeated, House of Gold
.
“At your right hand stands the queen in the gold of Ophir.” – Psalm 45:9
.
“I am very dark, but lovely,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
Like the tents of Kedar,
Like the curtains of Solomon.” – The Song of Solomon 1:5
.
“Help of the half-defeated, House of Gold,
Shrine of the Sword, and Tower of Ivory;
Splendor apart, supreme and aureoled,
The Batter’s vision and the World’s reply,
You shall restore me, O my last Ally,
To vengeance and the glories of the bold.
This is the faith that I have held and hold,
And this is that in which I mean to die.” -Hilaire Belloc, “Ballade to Our Lady of Częstochowa”
